Benola's World Cerebral Palsy Day Celebration at Arrows of God Orphanage

The First day of October 2014, Nigeria’s 54th Independence Anniversary was also the day when Benola joined millions all over the world to celebrate the 3rd World CP Day.

On like last year, when we held a Cocktail Party to mark the occasion, this year’s celebration was held at Arrows of God Orphanage. Situated on Oke Ira-Nla Road in the heart of Eti-Osa West Local Government Area of Lagos State, the orphanage is home to over 120 children with ages ranging from 2 – 21years.

It was a day when the heavens chose to open up and it showered intermittently throughout. But even at that, the programme started close to schedule at about 12:30pm with an opening prayer led by, Mrs Dorcas Lawal, wife of the Pastor, of Ikoyi Baptist Church. This was followed by a brief sensitization on Disability, Childhood Disabilities, Cerebral Palsy, the need for Inclusive Education and the relevance of World CP Day by the CEO.

Gaily dressed in Benola’s branded green T-Shirts and Caps (The colours of the day), the children who look healthy and happy in a neat, fully paved and well-kept compound participated cheerfully in a range of activities that included; dancing, singing and age group dancing competitions. At the end, prizes were awarded to all winners along with the neatest boy and girl in the home. In additional every child received a present of note books courtesy of a friend of Benola.

At the end of the event which closed at 4pm, the Director of the Orphanage and son of the founder, Mr David Ogo-Tsegah, commended Benola for the effort, noting that it was the first time in the long history of the institution that the children were experiencing a celebration of such magnitude. Indeed, it was another great successful outing for Benola and we look forward to organizing more of such in future.

The event was covered by a number of print and electronic media houses, including NTA, MITV, Voice of Nigeria, City FM 105.1, Radio Lagos and The Mirror Newspaper.
